Kerikeri gives a big welcome to Michelle Choo and Jim Pope.
They are the new owners of M & J Café (formerly Tiffany's)
on 84 Kerikeri Road. They specialise in Kiwi and Asian cuisine
with an everyday adult buffet for $17 or a takeaway at $12.
And there is a special rate of just $11 for pensioners with gold
cards. You will be spoiled for choice with a buffet offering a
variety of 20 sumptuous foods and salads. Two great favourites
are the clay pot curry and the siz zling hot griddle with a
choice of steak or seafood. Michelle Choo is no stranger to
the restaurant business having owned a "coffee shop" in Taiping, Malaysia called
M & M Capition. It seated 150 people and operated as a bar/Restaurant but in
Malaysia they call them coffee shops. She has vast experience with Asian food. Jim
Pope has worked in the food industry for six years with a catering contract to the
Papakura Club giving him hands on experience organising large functions such a s
weddings and conferences. He brings the Kiwi twist to this partnership. Come and
see Jim and Michelle - you can get a fast service takeaway or take a more leisurely
approach; enjoying the fabulous food out on the deck watching Kerikeri go by.
NEWS in Business
Jnine Smith and Fleur Howe combined their talents in a new pure hair studio, Smith
& Howe, at 14 Hobson Avenue. The decor is light and fresh with a modern, relaxed
feel and an emphasis on individual pampering to achieve a look just for you. Janine
and Fleur have had close family ties for 25 years and have long dreamed about owning
a salon together. They are both well-known in Kerikeri hairdressing circles.
Fleur has been working from home for the past 4 years while Janine has spent the last
3 years working with Organic colour systems, most recently at Hair by Nature. Fleur 's
20 years' experience began at Betjeman's in Auckland followed by stints in London and
Sydney where her flair for colouring, cutting and wedding hair styles was developed.
Janine has been hairdressing in Kerikeri for about 13 years and is passionate about
reducing chemical use in hairdressing after personally suffering the effects of chemical
hair colourants. She loves cutting new styles and colouring for a natural look.
Kimberley Ngaropo, a talented young apprentice completes the group. Kimberley is a
very capable, confident colourist with excellent cutting skills.
The salon promotes its organic colour systems; Chi Organics, O&M Colours and L'Oreal
Inoa which are based on natural, organic ingredients. Styling products are free from
plastics, sulphates and parabens. L'Oreal is available for those who can't give it up,
Check out the promotion on Facebook before 10th December and come and see the
girls for a new summer look!
New Salon In Town
Double whammy... Kiwi and
Asian eatery opens in Kerikeri.
Herbert Birk and I founded the company BioPure Ltd, based in
Kerikeri. BioPure designs and builds (and maintains) treatment
plants where waste liquids and solids for agricultural,
commercial, local government and residential clients are
processed efficiently and fully biologically. BioPure proposes
a holistic and interdisciplinary solution to improve the quality
of water, soil and air.
BioPure's treatment plants are based on well established,
environmentally friendly, versatile, sustainable and natural processes. The plants
are powered by nature -- no power needed and therefore extremely versatile in all
weather conditions, summer, and winter, dry or wet. Their operation is absolutely
odourless and without any mechanical noise a quiet passive system with very
basic maintenance and costs (lowers than sophisticated systems on the market).
Solid waste is 100% transformed into usable top soil -- no dumping required any
more. Re-usable grey water, more fertile soil, a cleaner air, an embellishment of
environment and nature, and an enhancement of the natural habitat are the result
of BioPure's inter ventions.
