Bay Chronicle : August 25th 2011
22 BAY CHRONICLE, AUGUST 25, 2011 Kohukohu's Hokianga Harbour Hotel owners, Trish Brown-Birt and Russell Birt, are finalising plans for an alfresco dining area to help cater to the many travellers passing through the town, either heading north or south and those holidaying in the area. The new look "Koke Cafe" at the hotel will be opening soon, located next door to the Village Arts Studio. The popular Waterline Cafe is now closed. Managers, Maryellen and Kate will bring their barista experience to the "Koke Cafe" once they return from holiday, thanks to the local coffee enthusiasts for their support. A new menu is currently being developed which will include local signature dishes incorporating local produce, kai moana and generally good all round New Zealand flavours. Having moved to New Zealand from Australia last year, Kerri's background in veterinary work prompted her acquisition of various animals to an ever-growing menagerie. This proved a delightful way to assist the settling-in process. A return to university about 12 years ago lured Kerri into attaining various degrees including a Bachelor of Social Work, a Graduate Diploma in Child Psychotherapy a Masters in Psychoanalytic Studies, and the commencement of a PhD. By travelling and working around Australia Kerri immersed her skills and energies into several major hospitals and medical centres. When Kerri ventured across to the West accepting a position as a mental health counsellor in a remote, rural Western Australian hospital she met her husband Dr Carl Rotkirch. Carl now works as a regular locum in the Kawakawa and Moerewa clinics. Now settled here permanently, Kerri is keen to concentrate on developing a much needed service to assist people in her local area. She specialises in: Family and couple relationships, challenging child and adolescent behaviour, women's issues, parenting and mental health Kerri also provides an online counselling service which offers people a convenient and affordable means of accessing support from the comfort of their own home. www.counsellingaustraliaonline.com To contact Kerri you can email: email@example.com or phone her to make an appointment: 021806239. Kerri is now consulting in the room adjacent to the Opua Community Hall every Friday. Discounts available. You may be eligible for discounted sessions. At inception we established a number of goals and targets for our business and these have largely been met or exceeded. In particular we have outgrown the residence at 47 Rankin Street and moved our business to a larger premises at 49 Rankin Street - the old Waste Works yard and buildings. The new premises offers concrete, larger undercover areas for processing metal, secure alarmed buildings, and more organised, tidy and safer access for customers. We are always investigating ways to add value, through further reprocessing, wherever possible. In this way we are achieving the maximum value from the various grades and types of metal brought into us. Our investment in a computerised weighbridge means we are able to track product entering and exiting our yard. This vastly improves our rate of throughput and ensures a level of accuracy and professionalism. Another recent purchase has been the press, or baler. This machine has enabled us to upgrade metals, maximise loads for transportation and ultimately allows us to export in the future. We have been fortunate to win awards in the Top Energy Tall Poppy Business Awards. In 2009 we won "Emerging Business". In 2010 in the service industry category, we won a silver award. These awards have given us the confidence and knowledge that our achievements are rewarded especially in these challenging economic times.
